    Bangladesh admits that the total number of martyrs in 1971 was 3 million. However, when the trial for Crimes Against Humanity began, Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Jamaat e Islami -led parties started the controversy by systematically understating the death toll and hence denying the intensity of genocide. Renowned historian Muntassir Mamoon critically examines their claims and points out the futility of these claims. On the contrary, he demonstrates that the number of martyrs will exceed 3 million based on recent research and surveys. As a result, this numerical debate is, in fact, of no use at all except a lucrative invented academic discussion and populist but useless political debate.
