Zeena Choudhury was born in Calcutta (now Kolkata) in July 1939 and spent part of her childhood between the city and the hill station of Darjeeling, where she studied at the Loreto Convent. In 1959 she married Faruq Choudhury, whose diplomatic career took the family to several countries. During this period, she earned an honours degree in Sociology from the University of London in 1975 and completed an LL.M. in International Law at the Vrije Universiteit in Brussels in 1980. Following their return to Dhaka in 1991, Zeena Choudhury took on a number of projects, including running Kids Tutorial School, founded by her mother, Dr. Amina Rahman-which she managed for twenty-two years and continues to oversee as Chairman of the Board. She has also engaged in writing and consultancies, with UNICEF, on issues relating to women's and children's rights. She is the author of Church Bells and Darjeeling Tea, a vivid account of her school days at Loreto Convent, Darjeeling, also published by UPL.
