Selim Jahan is the Director of the Poverty Division of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in New York. In that capacity, he leads UNDP’s work on poverty and inequality, inclusive development, inclusive globalization and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). He was a member of the Core Team that authored UNDP’s nine global Human Development Reports (1993-2001). Before joining UNDP in 1992, Selim Jahan taught at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh and McGill University, Canada and was a Visiting Fellow at the School of Public Policy, University of Maryland, USA. He has also served as an Adviser to the Planning Commission, Government of Bangladesh, ILO, UNDP, and the World Bank. He was the Secretary General of the Bangladesh Economics Association (1991-92). Selim Jahan holds a Ph.D. in Economics from McGill University, Montreal, Canada. He is the author of eight books and more than 150 articles in various national and international academic journals.
