Jamil Choudhury started with a brilliant career in nuclear physics but went on to becoming a pioneer in television in the country, where he exelled. Starting as a project director of Pakistan TV in the Eastern Wing, he left television as a Director General of Bangladesh Television. He closed his career as an Additional Secretary to government in the Ministry of Education. Choudhury authored two volumes particularly well received in Bangladesh and West Bengal, viz., Banan O Uchcharan (Spelling and Pronunciation) published by Bangla Academy and Bangla Academy Bangla Banan-Abhidhan (Bangla Academy Dictionary of Bangla Orthography), the latter being the first in Bengali language. He is keenly interested in music and has been involved in producing LP records CDs in Bangladesh.
