Jahangir Alam

Dr. Jahangir Alam is a noted agricultural economist with long experience in research on agricultural and rural development and active involvement in research on livestock development. He did his B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. in Agricultural Economics from Bangladesh Agricultural University and Ph.D. from Lincoln University, New Zealand. Currently he has been working as the Chief Scientific Officer and Head of Socio-Economic and Marketing Research Division of the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute at Savar, Dhaka. He conducted studies on various issues including rural income distribution, poverty alleviation, government and non-government organisations in rural development, land reforms, food problem, appropriate agricultural technology, irrigation management and livestock development. A former President of Bangladesh Agricultural Economists Association, he published a number of books and research articles both at home and abroad and received several awards including the Presidential Award for Agricultural Development in 1980.
