Abstract
This chapter discusses family as a social institution. The author argues that over the past few decades, the concept of family as an essential primary unit of society has undergone significant transformations followed by the emergence of what is known as the industrial revolution. The families observed today significantly differ from those of belonging to earlier generations. The dynamics of the family is changing and impacting everywhere due to the global economic crisis and pandemic. In a changing neo-liberal society, families around the country have been experiencing a growing economic crisis, unemployment, violence, divorce, and depression. This chapter also sheds some light on the importance of studying social institutions and suggests a strategic direction for future teaching, research, and collaboration by highlighting changing patterns of marriage, family, and kinship.
