Abstract 


This chapter follows contemporary post-structuralism theories and post-development scholars to rethink development strategies and pedagogy in Sociology in Bangladesh in a preliminary way, imagining Sonar Bangla, a just and egalitarian society that transcends modernization, Westernization, and the difficulty of unending economic progress. In what follows, first, the author critically reviews the theories of development and post-development to provide context and how post-development scholarship challenges mainstream development theories and their Eurocentric, colonial, and neoliberal qualities. Second, the author examines the meaning and practices of development in Bangladesh to date to understand the nature of Bangladesh's development perspectives. Next, the author deals with critical social and ecological challenges of development perspectives in Bangladesh. Finally, he explores and examines the roles and agenda of development Sociology at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, and the extent to which it is engaged with contemporary development practices in the country and, more importantly, with contemporary post-development theories and pedagogy.
