This book problematizes issues of Women and Work in the context of South Asia, anchoring itself in the notions of identity and mobility. The latter two are inextricably linked to the notion of empowerment and challenge the patriarchal mindset and structure of South Asia. Individuals have multiple identities; however, public politics has obscured this plurality and pinned women to the private. This book comprises writings on different thematic areas from countries across the geographical entity called South Asia, delving into the multiplexity of issues at the micro, meso, and macro levels, and documenting the journeys of women as they chart their autonomous identities. The book is an attempt at shifting the societal gaze at women as the authors deliberate upon the multiple paths that women in South Asia have taken to demonstrate their agencies. The mobility and identity questions have been extensively interrogated at the cognitive and spatial levels. It is a book on women in South Asia, written by South Asian authors, that speaks to the weaving of South Asian-ness at the epistemic level.

Amena Mohsin

Amena Mohsin teaches in the Department of International Relations at the University of Dhaka. She graduated from the same University and later on received her MA and PhD degrees from the University of Hawaii, USA, and Cambridge University, UK, respectively. She specialises on nationalism, ethnicity and minority issues. She has published numerous articles in various journals.

Niloy Ranjan Biswas

Niloy Ranjan Biswas is a Professor of the Department of International Relations at the University of Dhaka. A Fulbright and USIP Resolve Fellow, he holds a Ph.D. from City, University of London. His research and publications focus on security governance, violent extremism, WPS issues, peacekeeping, and forced migration. He has co-authored two books, co-edited five books and authored numerous journal articles.

Mohammad Atique Rahman

Mohammad Atique Rahman is an Associate Professor at the Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Ghent, Belgium. His research interests are natural resource governance, climate change and environmental sustainability, governance and development and intellectual property rights. He authored numerous academic and policy write-ups with reputable publishers.
